Your Guide to Dog Adoption: Answers to Common Questions
Adoption Process
-
Apply
When submitting your application, please ensure that all information you give is as complete and accurate as possible. This allows our volunteers to process your application efficiently and avoid delays with follow-up.
Please let all references know that we will be calling and/or emailing them (sometimes our emails go to spam.)
We are a small rescue group by volunteers. Please allow us at least 3 business days to process your application and we will get back to you as soon as possible! We encourage you to follow up if you have not heard from us within 3 business days.
*Please note that we are not a first come first serve rescue. Filling out an application does NOT mean you have been approved for adoption. We will review the applications and if we feel you are a good fit for the dog you are interested in, we will move forward with the adoption process. If we think you are a great fit for an adopter, but not for that specific dog, we will keep your application on file for future rescue pups needing homes.

References
We will reach out to two personal references to help us further understand what type of dog will best fit into your family.
Vet (If Applicable)
If you have a pet living in your home – whether it’s your pet or it belongs to someone you live with – or have had a pet within the last five years, we will need to complete a vet reference
We cannot approve any application without the following being confirmed by a vet:
Current on rabies and distemper vaccinations unless the vet confirms it was his/her recommendation to forego vaccinations.
Spayed/neutered unless the vet confirms it was his/her recommendation to forego the procedure.
Record of regular heartworm tests and preventatives. If you purchase preventatives elsewhere, you may be asked for proof of purchase.
Landlord (If Applicable)
If you rent your house or apartment, we will contact your landlord to confirm you can have a pet, if so, are there any restrictions
-
Home Visit
Once we have all the information we need to begin the reference check, your information will be sent to our Home Visit team so they can assign a volunteer in your area to come complete the home visit.
-
Application Approval
Once the home visit is complete, we’re satisfied that everything checks out and If the dog looks like a great match, we’ll connect you to the foster parents to chat and potentially schedule a meet-and-greet
-
Meet and Greet
At your meet-and-greet, you’ll have a chance to hang out with the potential new best friend. Have the opportunity to see the dog’s behavior, demeanor, and anything else. You can also ask questions about the dog with the foster.
Remember this is about making sure it’s the right fit for you and the potential new best friend.
* No meet and greets will be scheduled until you have gone through the adoption application & have been approved.

Adopt you new best friend
The time has come and you can take your new best friend home, happy tails and fur-ever!
Additional Information
The adoption process can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to upwards of a month. For dogs that have received a number of applications, it can take a little time for our adoption coordinators to sort through them all. Please remember that we are completely volunteer-run so all of this work is being done after the workday and on the weekends. We hope that you will be patient with us as we help you find the perfect match!
If the dog(s) you originally applied for is adopted by a family that applied or noted their interest prior to you, we would love to help you find another great pup.
Adoption Fees
The fee collected upon a dog’s adoption goes toward offsetting the costs involved in caring for our dogs and preparing them for placement into a new home.
Our adoption fee varies and is posted on each of our adoptable dogs
What does the adoption fee cover?
All of our dogs are fully vetted prior to adoption. Unfortunately, our adoption costs are just a small fraction of what it costs to fully care for an animal before being available for adoption. Your new pup’s adoption fee includes the following:
- All vaccinations and medical testing that are age-appropriate at the time of adoption
- Rabies vaccine (if older than 12 weeks old*)
- Distemper & Parvovirus vaccines
- Dewormed & fecal tested
- Lifetime registered microchip
- Spay/neuter (if older than 4 months old.**)
- Heartworm tested & flea-free
- Health Certificate to travel
Adoption Fee Cost Reasoning
Our rescues come from all over the globe, and their final destinations are here in Colorado. Our rescue runs solely on donations and adoption fees to continue helping as many dogs as possible. Because our dogs do come from all different backgrounds (young, old, domestic transfers, international transfers, etc….), we must ensure they are healthy before adoption and also spayed/neutered (if of age*) to break the cycle of unwanted litters and pet overpopulation. The average spay/neuter cost here in the Denver area is between $250-$450 just in itself!
FAQs
Do you have a shelter/facility?
No, we do not have a shelter or facility. We are a foster-based rescue, which means our pups go into local foster homes before being available for adoption.
Where do your dogs come from?
Our rescue group focuses mostly on dogs in Texas, New Mexico, southern Colorado, and dogs from the dog meat trade over in China. We work with a variety of shelters and rescue partners to help as many dogs as we are able. Once healthy to travel, our pups come to Denver to find their forever homes.
Do you adopt out of state?
As a small rescue, we are limited with our resources and have the ability to transport dogs into Colorado from Texas and New Mexico, but not to other states. While we do occasionally allow out of state adoptions, the individual who adopts would still need to go through the adoption process (just as you would if you lived in Colorado) and they would be required & responsible to arrange transport out of Colorado to wherever the new home would be. We do not organize transport for you if you are approved to adopt out of state.
Do you do adoption events?
We do! We mostly do private meet and greets so that we can be in a more controlled and relaxed environment, but you will occasionally see us at some events with a few pups that you’d be able to meet! Please note that even if you do swing by to say hello/meet a dog, you will still need to go through our adoption process, be approved, and have a successful meet and greet prior to any adoption being finalized.
